Writing Day Workshop: CLT 2025

I am behind on writing this post, but life has been crazy with two littles and also traveling for work. Mom life, IYKYK.

I did want to hop on here and talk about the writing conference I attended in the beginning of March. I had a wonderful experience, and highly recommend the event for anyone who wishes to publish some sort of writing project. The classes were extremely informative, especially from someone like me who hopes to follow the traditional publishing route. I also was able to break at a local B&N which was of course… nice. Ha! Spending time by myself getting lost in a book store is always beneficial.

Anyway…. what did I learn?

  • What literary agents look for in the first pages

    • I sat in on a panel where literary agents read submitter’s first drafts. Each submission was read blind, meaning the agent did not have the author’s name. I was humbled by the quality of work, even if the agents provided feedback not favoring the piece. I was able to see and hear why they found flaws in the work, even if the piece had potential.

  • Hearing more about the literary agent/author relationship

    • I loved hearing about how this relationship is meant to be life-long. Hearing how the agent works alongside the author to help better their chances of success in the industry was comforting. It also explains why it’s such an elite status to have an agent.

  • Familiarizing myself with agent’s preferred genres

    • This wasn’t a surprise, but I still enjoyed hearing the different novels the agents preferred, and how it usually falls in line with what they read “off the clock".

I was SO excited after the conference and cannot wait to return in future years!
